How does NexGard Spectra work?
NexGard Spectra Purple for Small Cats contains praziquantel, esafoxolaner, and eprinomectin as the key ingredients. When applied topically, the solution is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. These active ingredients then work systemically to target both internal and external parasites in cats. Praziquantel targets tapeworms, whereas eprinomectin targets other internal parasites like hookworms, roundworms, and heartworm larvae. Esafoxolaner, the third ingredient, targets external parasites like fleas, ticks, and mites.
How fast does NexGard Spectra work?
NexGard Spectra Spot-On for Cats works fast after administration, killing fleas rapidly before they can lay eggs. In clinical studies, this cat spot-on has demonstrated more than 95% efficacy against ticks within 72 hours after treatment. It has also shown effectiveness against gastrointestinal worms, mites, and heartworm larvae for up to a month.
Important notes:
- NexGard Spectra may not kill ticks attached when cats are first treated; any ticks present at the time of first treatment should be removed.
- The use of NexGard Spectra in heartworm-positive cats has not been evaluated. Cats should be tested for heartworm infection prior to initiating heartworm prevention treatment.
